It sucks...

Well, it was a matter of time. Budgerigars are little tumor factories. I found out the other day that my parakeet, Sumokeet, has a tumor. I figure it originated from her female parts aka ovaries and has grown into a mass that is now protruding from her back. She is the fourth bird that I have had that will die from cancer. Unfortunately, parakeets are so inbred especially the English variety that it is an eventuality that they succumb to cancer if they aren't killed by any household accidents. I am sad but I have given her a good life. She was an older bird that was crippled when I bought her so I know that I saved her and gave her a few months of TLC and a little buddy to keep her company. I just have been down this route before and I am told the same thing by the vet, she is too little for surgery, the tumor is too big and the surgery is too risky. The good thing is that she is comfortable and not in any pain and is completely adored by her man, Howie. I just hate to have to lose her she is a good bird. Posted by Picasa

The Odd Couple!

I was checking out the my collection of pictures and I stumbled upon this one of two of my feral kitties. Siamezer and Babooner are two cats that I trapped and neuter and now have an odd couple kind of relationship. This picture was taken during the winter and as you can tell it was cold. I usually leave a blanket as well as their food and water. I always worry about them but they are too wild to try and rehome. They don't cuddle that close right now because it's so freaking hot but they still sit close to each other a very close 6 inches apart. For cats that is almost cuddling like in the picture.  Posted by Picasa

There are the good and the bad!

First the good.

Last night, while I was studying and my sister was playing on the computer, someone knocked on our backdoor. It was already dark and since we don't live in the best neighborhood, I was scared. After a couple of knocks I finally got the courage and some pants on to answer the door but my sister beat me to it. She opens up the door and sees a heavily pregnant woman walking away and a bag that left on the patio. My sister asks if she need anything and she said no but noticed that we fed some outdoor cats and she left us some supplies since her cat was no longer with her. I am completely surprised it has been 6 years of living at this apartment complex of trapping, neutering and feeding every cat that I came across and I have never had anyone give me anything in the way of help before. I am sad that she lost a pet but thankful that she was willing to help. I thought it was heartburn at first but I actually got a warm and fuzzy feeling here, it's nice.

Now for the bad.

I decided to buy an epilator. For all those who don't know what the hell that is, remember the Epilady, yep, it pulls your body hair out by the root. I figure I would give it a try since I am spending way too much money on waxing and I have a high tolerance for that kind of pain. Anyways, I decided to buy one off of EBay thinking I could get a new one cheap. Well, I did find one that I thought was a good deal and new, very important because a used one kind of creeps me out. So, I received it in the mail today and guess what? It was not so new. It was charged up like it had been used and if that didn't convince me the hair in the actual head mechanism was a clencher. I am completely grossed out and I have no idea whose black hair from God knows which body part that came from. I dropped that thing like it had a raging case of gonorhea (possibly?) and emailed that person a very nice letter saying that she lied. I hope I get a response because there is no way in hell I am keeping that think unless I can dump it in a vat of pure alcohol then set it on fire to get that deep down clean. This goes to show that sometimes paying full price means that your also paying for piece of mind. Anybody else have some similar stories?

Snuggles says reading is FUNdamental!

I know it's been a long time since I posted anything but school has been crazy. I am taking this accelerated class that is taking up all my time lately but I've made time to spend with our new kitten, Snuggles. He is a little embarrassed by the name but I think it totally suits him. My husband's parents are cat lovers and sent this card to him, welcoming him to the family. He also got a gift card to PetsMart and he told me he was going to spend it all on cat nip and treats. I figure I would monitor his herb consumption, don't want him to be a kitty cat nip addict. Overall, my brain's been to fried to think of anything deep and meaningful so I am going to keep posting pixs of my cats till I get a good thought, so enjoy!

Oh, by the way Snuggles' full name is Mr. Snugglesworth. I think it's very distinguished, don't you think? Posted by Picasa

This week's news...

Well, my sister put her kitty, Don Gato, to sleep on Saturday. It was a tough decision but he was not happy and in pain. She still has a surviving kitten, Lupita, that has been working to cheer up but we all will be sad this weekend.

My husband and I decided to adopt one of my foster kittens. Isn't he cute in the picture, he just woke up from a nap when I took it. He looks exactly like Pepito and I have no idea what to call him. I usually get a name within 24 hours of having a foster but I have been a complete blank on what to call him. He is a mellow little guy and is completely opposite to his sister who is very vocal, must be the Siamese in her, and energetic. He definitely is one of our brood.

I am taking Munchy into the clinic for more blood work and another ultrasound this week to figure out if his kidney is still swollen. I am hoping for some good news, wish me luck!

Overall, we are hanging there and but I feel bruised.

It's not noticeable, is it?

My sister will probably be annoyed that I posted this picture but I wanted to show you guys what she did to herself. Last weekend she came out of her room and had a bruise on her forehead. I inquired about out it and she put her hand over her mouth to contain her crazy laughing fit. It took a while till she caught her breath and explained what happened. It seems that she had a feather toy attached to a stick that had a suction cup at the end. Well, she decides to super amuse her kitten, Lupita, by sticking it to her forehead. She said it had some incredible sticking power and had to yank it off, causing her bruise. I told her to lie and say that she walked into a door or something but I am sure that any story including the truth would cause people to give her the phone number to a domestic abuse line. She is posing with Munchkin aka Peanut. A little update on him, he is sick. One of his kidneys is three times the size that is should be and he is on some kick ass antibiotics to reduce the swelling. I am praying that he will recover but I have a fear of when bad things happen they happen in threes. I will tell you more of my rule of three later. I don't want to jinx myself. Hasta Luego! Posted by Picasa
