The New Guy!

What is with me? I can attract any stray cat within a 2 mile radius. I found this cute guy on my patio tonight. He was pretty wild and since I didn't have my cat trap, I caught him in my cat carrier. It looks pretty cruel locking him up in a dog crate but I am keeping him there till I can get him checked out by the vet. I have 4 other cats to think of. I fostered kittens for years before I gave it up. It's an expensive and thankless task that I enjoyed but my cats were starting to eat better than I was. It's been two years since I fostered a kitten and I am hoping I still have some contacts at our local Humane Society to get him adopted in the next two weeks. I could keep him but then I would be entering the realm of creepy cat lady and he is too friendly for me to keep. I only keep the cats that are really wild or have some serious issues. I am still thinking of a name for this cute guy. Hmm....how about Billy? Posted by Picasa

He is so cute. I tend not to name animals after people I know, and I have a nephew named Billy. I like sort of "out there" pet names or pet names from movies. Like if I had a little scruffy dog, I would probably name it "Verdel" from "As Good As It Gets". I also am a fan of Napoleon Dynamite, so I might name an animal Napoleon (Nappy for short). I helped my friend buy a Pug (my other friend was breeding them) and she named her little Pug boy Herbie the Love Pug. Just a few ideas, but Billy is fine, too. :-)

Jen, I think your right. He doesn't seem like a Billy. Maybe a "Sir Purrcival" because he purred throught out the whole vet visit or maybe "Squeaker" because he has this cute old lady meows. I am still thinking about it and figuring out his personality. He is pretty well tempered and even though he is infested with all kinds of parasites, he is going to be okay. I love the name "Herbie the Love Pug." That name deserves some kind of award because it's brilliant.

I like Sir Purrcival - very distinguished. Funny thing about the pug name - my friend works at a school and she had a puppy naming contest and Herbie was the name that a first grade class came up with. As a reward for thinking up such a great name, that first grade class got to have Mr. Love Pug himself visit for the whole day. I love the things kids come up with - they are so creative.

The kids must have loved that visit from Herbie. When I was a kid one of my teachers brought a baby goat that her husband gave to her as a present. He was so cute and lots of fun. The good thing is that those children will remember Herbie for the rest of their life, I still remember Billy the Goat. I have some neices and nephews and I am constantly blown away on what they say and do. I think kids don't receive as much credit as they deserve, they are really smart and crafty.

I'd like to thank you for rescuing the cat. It's the kind of thing that makes my day. Really.

After the post you made about the assholes dropping kittens out of a moving car, I found myself really pissed off. I gave some money to a local shelter, several times, but the anger hasn't really abated. I just feel so damned helpless.

That's why rescuing one is such a gift. I hope he grows on you that you realize it's better to be the creepy cat lady than someone who doesn't care. It's one of those traits which exposes your abundance of humanity. Makes you a truly endearing character in the scenes of my life.

Thank you.

Thanks, Monty! People like you help us continue to save animals. I now a lot of animal rescue people and shelters and the biggest issue is always money. When I worked at the local Humane Society it was literally every week that we were depending on donations to keep the lights on. Volunteers also saved our asses. As a foster mom I depended on personal donations from friends who supported what I did and the wonderful employee discount at the vet's office but it was still very expensive. I appreciate your support and it invigorates me and let's me know that I am doing the right thing. Well, see about keeping this kitten. I still have a list of great people who I trust and need a cute little kitten in their life. We'll see. Thanks again.

Send me an e mail with your address and a name that can cash a small check. Times are a bit lean with interest rates up, but I can help a little.

Autumn, I know he is so cute! I am getting a feel for his personality and he such a mellow guy!

Monty, no need to send me money. He has a new home! I have a friend who was looking for a kitten and when I put them together, you could tell they were meant for each other. He is going to be purrfect with my friend and I feel real good that I matched them up together. I am much better in hooking up kittens with the right person then I am setting up my friends with dates! Oh, well I got to work with what I am good at.

Thank you all for the great comments and he is going to be just fine. Yeah! I love a good kitten story with a happy ending.

In your honor, I went to the local shelter, and after telling the lady that I couldn't volunteer because I cry too much, and I couldn't adopt just yet, because I have a declining 17 year old kitty, finally, I just took the $22 out of my pocket, and kept $2 and gave her $20 as a donation. I just told her she was getting it because of Angelique. I backed out, trying not to look at animals praying for me to save them, and raced for the car crying my eyes out. I gotta stop this, I'm gonna dry out my tear ducts.

Yeah, I know I'm a softy, amkes me want to kill some mutha that would throw a kitty out of a damn window of a moving car. The Asshole.

Thank You, Monty. I am glad that you went down to the local shelter and donated some money. I am the same way when it came to volunteering. I volunteer at our local no-kill shelter because the other shelter that euthanizes for space made me so depressed that I couldn't stay there for more than two minutes before having a mental breakdown. Feel good about yourself because your donation was probably used for healthcare, food and litter. Every little bit helps! What pisses me off is a person who abuses or neglects children and/or animals. That kind of person deserves neither pity nor mercy. But on a lighter note...the little guy is doing great! He is settling in at his new loving home and he is on his way to being one spoiled kitten.

I am ***REALLY*** against hem euthanizing for space. Makes me cry that that can happen. Back to work, make more money, give more away. It's what I am best at when it comes to helping the animals.
