Awww! Aren't we cute!

Whew! I survived the holidays! My husband, sister and I spent the holidays at his parents house for Thanksgiving. The food was okay but the gravy and corn casserole (a plug for my sister) were exceptional plus the copious amounts of alcohol made up for the blandness of the whole meal. The family was great. We met my husband's brother's new fiancee. She is a really nice girl. They are getting married in March of next year and I can't wait to go to the wedding! We only went up for the day because my Big Kitty is still doing poorly and I have been taking her to the vet for some shots to help boost her immune system. Overall, she is hanging in there and we had a great time at our family's house.

I am finally getting over this funk I have been in. I think I was depressed. Plus, I also gave up caffeine. I am now just starting to feel better. Those were the three worst days of my life while going cold turkey off caffeine but now I feel that I can take on the world. This past Sunday, we went out to the Austin Zoo. My sister took this really cute picture of my husband and I getting cuddly. I wanted to post some pictures of Amy, too, but I have to run off to class so I will post them as soon as I get back. The hardest thing I have ever done...letting go.

It has been crazy these last two weeks. We are settling down at our house and I am preparing for the last month of school. I have been busy taking care of my cat to post anything lately. She is dying of lymphoma, a type of cancer. I always suspected it was cancer but I hoped that it wasn't. My fridge is a fridge full of sick cat paraphernalia. Opened wet cat food containers for forced feedings, a vial of penicillin for her daily injection to treat her for an infection, I have needles in my drawers and an enema to help her poop. I am glad that I know what I am doing because my husband looks queasy every time I give her a shot or squirt some smelly food into Big Kitty's mouth, makes me laugh. I know what I am doing is futile. She has a mass the size of a small ball in her abdomen attached to her liver but I am willing to keep doing supportive methods until she tells me to stop. She isn't very mobile but she never really has been. She sleeps with me at night and she does a good job of making me feel loved and warm. I will know in the next couple of days if she will get over this latest infection or succumb to it. My sister and husband have been very supportive but I am in my own case of denial. I know that the end is close for my cat but I can't say it. I am waiting for a sign that she is ready, I don't want her to suffer but I don't want to let her go without a fight. I am here waiting and hoping and crying...

You gotta love Austin, Texas!

Even though Proposition 2 passed (see my previous post for the details) state wide in Texas, that's okay. Travis county, where Austin is located, was the only county in Texas that voted against Prop 2. No surprise, Austin is a very liberal city but it's nice to know that I live in the most tolerant county in the freaking state. Yeah! That's why I love this fucking city.

P.S. Here is where I borrowed the pix from. Posted by Picasa

A New Addition to Our Flock!

Guess what? I got a girlfriend for Howie today. I went to our local feed store where I get my cat food and they had some English Budgies for sale. As you can tell Howie is a standard parakeet and is half the size of the new girl. I got her because she is lame. Her foot on the right side of the photo can not grasp the perch like a normal parakeet so she leans on the perch more on that side. I don't care if she is not perfect, all I saw is that she needed a home and Howie needed a girlfriend. He was putting some miles on his mirror. Anyways, G picked her out and at first glance I thought she was a green pigeon but she is parakeet. Genetics is an amazing thing because it bred the Jolly Green Giant of Parakeets. By the way, we thought of a name for her. Her name is Sumo-keet, you know as in Parakeet, or Sumo for short. She is a feisty thing and can probably take us down if we try to clip her nails.  Posted by Picasa

Two Wild and Crazy Gals!

Finally a sister picture with me on the left and my sister, Amy, on the right. I am just having an absolute blast since my sister moved into town. Last night I dragged her ass to Videoke at the Alamo Drafthouse. I finally got the balls when Amy, my friend Jerry and my husband supported my leap into Videoke. I did this scene from Army of Darkness (it's a little bit of a wait since it's a quicktime clip but it's worth it, I swear it) and even though I was really nervous, I did a okay job. So okay that my score was a 90 and a 83 from the judges but the audience was so cool they booed the judge who gave me an 83. What nice folks. Today we went to see the Austin Pow Wow. I enjoy any kind of culture thingie and I had to drag me sister with me. We even danced on the main floor for the blanket dance. Later, they had the non-Indian dance aka White Man Dance Competition. My sister and I danced and she got picked to dance in the semi-finals. Yeah! Only six people were picked out of the crowd of a hundred including myself. I attribute it to the fact that my sister was wearing a low cut shirt that you can't see in the picture but believe me she has go some talent and when I say talent I mean boobs. Anyways, she was good but the weird ass dancers went on to the finals and she did not advance. There was a drum circle that was rooting for her and I wasn't entirely sure that they beat the drum with their drumsticks...hmm but it sure looked like a stick. Anyways, we had a blast! Posted by Picasa

My Civic Duty!

Well, it's voting time again. I always make it a habit to vote and I even got my husband in the habit of voting when before he wouldn't have given it a second thought. I really like voting because it is the ultimate expression of what I like or don't like.

I don't like Proposition 2, "The constitutional amendment providing that marriage in this state consists only of the union of one man and one woman and prohibiting this state or a political subdivision of this state from creating or recognizing any legal status identical or similar to marriage." I forget sometimes living in Austin which is a liberal mecca that I live in Texas which is in the south, in the bible belt and a red state. I really don't like this proposition, mostly because I don't like telling people what they can and can't do if they are living their lives peacefully and paying their taxes. These laws and tweaks to our state constitution remind me of the Jim Crow laws that stripped away the rights of African-Americans. I also realize that change is hard and it takes years, decades, maybe even a century. For example, the Civil War was fought in the 1860's yet the Civil Rights Movement began in the 1960's. That's a hundred years. That's a long time. On a more personal note, I have a marriage that would have been frowned upon a couple of generations ago. I am Hispanic my husband is Caucasian. I know this mix may upset people but I say what I always say when people I don't know judge me, Kiss My Ass. Overall, my point is that this proposition will probably pass but that's okay because eventually people will understand that this legislation strips rights away from citizens and gives the government the right to morally judge a specific segment of society and they don't know anyone that well to judge them. Eventually, people will understand that it's wrong but it may take a while maybe even a hundred more years before they realize that it's not right to deny anyone the right to marry whom ever they wish.

P.S. Thanks to Notta for inspiring me to voice my opinions concerning some proposed propositions.

What's with Ana's leg?!?!

I have been sick since two weekends ago and I haven't really been doing my duty as a blogger to tell you all about my happenings. There isn't a lot going on except for me still coughing up a lung and now it looks like I have pink eye. Fun. I have all this free time to blow my nose and study. While studying the other day Ana decide to take advantage of Munchkin while he was dead asleep on my books. She is stealthy that way. I just had to post this picture because of her cute little leg. It looks so prissy and it seems that she is really enjoying exploring Munchie's nether depths. I hope this picture satisfies ya'll until I get a picture of Amy but I tell you the woman isn't feeling to good either because we live in Austin which is hell on earth if you have any allergies. I am waiting until we can breath a little better and until my eye stops looking like a cherry tomato to take a sister pix. In the meantime enjoy Ana's bliss, nursing on Munchie.

P.S. I like how my husband's cat, Sunny Bunny Bear, just sits there while Munchie is being harassed by Ana. It's too funny. Posted by Picasa
